Terms of Service
Last updated: May 2026 | Effective date: May 2026
Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using ConvertPDF. By accessing or using the website at convertpdf.pages.dev ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, please do not use the Service.
1. About the Service
ConvertPDF provides a suite of free, browser-based document processing tools including PDF conversion, merging, splitting, compression, encryption, and related utilities. All processing is performed entirely within your web browser using client-side JavaScript. No files are uploaded to our servers. You do not need to create an account, provide personal information, or agree to any subscription to use the Service.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By using the Service, you confirm that:
- You are at least 13 years of age (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher).
- You have read and understood these Terms.
- You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.
If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
3. Permitted Use
You may use the Service for any lawful personal, educational, or commercial document processing purpose, including but not limited to converting, merging, splitting, compressing, encrypting, and annotating PDF and other document files.
3.1 Prohibited Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Process files that contain malware, viruses, or other malicious code intended to cause harm to any system or person.
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service or any connected system.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise extract the source code of the Service beyond what is made available publicly.
- Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the Service in a manner that places unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
- Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
- Infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party (for example, by processing and distributing commercially licensed documents in breach of their licence terms).
- Engage in any activity that could harm, disable, overburden, or impair the Service or other users' ability to access it.
4. Your Content and Intellectual Property
4.1 Ownership of Your Files
You retain full ownership of any files you process using the Service. Because your files are processed locally in your browser and never transmitted to us, you do not grant us any licence to your content — we simply never receive it.
4.2 Responsibility for Your Files
You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the legal right to process any file using the Service. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring you hold the appropriate copyright licence, authorisation, or consent for the documents you convert or modify. ConvertPDF accepts no liability for any copyright infringement or other legal claims arising from your use of the Service with files you do not have the legal right to process.
4.3 Our Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, and content (excluding third-party open-source libraries), is the intellectual property of ConvertPDF. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our proprietary code or design without prior written permission.
The Service is built using and depends upon a number of open-source libraries (including PDF.js, pdf-lib, Mammoth.js, and others). These libraries retain their own respective licences and we are grateful to their contributors. Use of these libraries within the Service does not transfer any ownership or additional rights to you.
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OPERATION.
We do not warrant that:
- The Service will meet your specific requirements.
- The Service will be available at all times or free from errors, bugs, or interruptions.
- The output produced by our tools will be perfectly accurate or suitable for any particular purpose (e.g., legally binding digital signatures, archival-quality formats, or professionally printed documents).
You use the Service at your own risk. We strongly recommend keeping original copies of any documents you process.
6. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CONVERTPDF AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF BUSINESS, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.
In no event shall our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising from or related to these Terms or your use of the Service exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months prior to the claim (which will typically be zero, as the Service is free); or (b) one hundred US dollars (USD $100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, the above limitations shall apply to the greatest extent permitted by law.
7. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ConvertPDF and its operators, agents, and successors from and against any claims, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Service in violation of these Terms; (b) your violation of any third party's rights, including intellectual property rights; or (c) any content you process through the Service in breach of any applicable law.
8. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. In summary: we do not collect, store, or transmit your files or personal data. Please read the Privacy Policy for full details.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites (for example, links within our blog or documentation to external resources). These links are provided for your convenience and do not constitute an endorsement of those websites or their content. ConvertPDF has no control over and accepts no responsibility for the content, privacy practices, or terms of third-party websites.
Third-party libraries used to power our tools (such as open-source PDF libraries delivered via CDN) are subject to their own terms and licences.
10. Service Availability and Modifications
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We will not be liable to you or any third party for any such modification, suspension, or discontinuance.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after any change to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree with the revised Terms, please stop using the Service.
11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable in the operator's jurisdiction, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service that cannot be resolved informally shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in that jurisdiction.
We encourage you to contact us first at convertpdf.contact@gmail.com to attempt to resolve any dispute informally before resorting to formal legal proceedings.
12. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid or unenforceable provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable.
13. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and ConvertPDF with respect to your use of the Service and supersede all prior agreements, representations, and understandings relating to the same.
